The Garden Route is a 300-kilometer long stretch of the south-western coast of of the Western Cape. The area is wedged between the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma Mountains to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south. It extends from the west of Mossel Bay to the Storms River in the east and the border with the Eastern Cape. The area is dotted with many lagoons and lakes along the coast.

Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Wilderness, George, Mossel Bay, Nature's Valley, Heidelberg, Stilbaai Groot and Klein Brakrivier and Nature's Valley are towns and villages within this region.
The main through road is the N2 freeway, which stats in Cape Town and continues on to Durban.
The summers are mild to warm and winters are mild to cool . Temperatures rarely fall below 10 °C in winter and rarely climb beyond 28 °C in summer. Rain occurs year-round, with a slight peak in spring.
Fauna and flora
The area is renown for the indigenous forests and there are nearly 300 bird species found here. From July to December, this area also welcomes the annual South Right Whale population to its shores
