Montagu Caravan Park

Montagu Caravan Park

Western Cape – Breede River Valley – montagu

Montagu Caravan Park is located in the town of Montagu in the Breede River Valley, approximately 185kms from Cape Town with a drive time of approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes. The resort is accessible via the N1 or the N2 freeway.  When taking the N1, continue through the tunnel towards Worcester.  In Worcester, turn right onto the R60 towards Robertson.  Drive through the towns of Roberston, Ashton and Bonnievale.  Heading straight through the town of Bonnievale, continue along the R62 towards Montagu.  After a beautiful mountain pass, you will arrive in the town of Montagu.  Follow the signs to the caravan park, turning left into Rose Street, then left into Bath Street and finally right into Brown Street.  The Resort will be on your left hand side.

Road Conditions

Roads to the resort, including the N1 highway and the roads from Worcester to Montagu are all tarred.  Please be aware that there are ongoing roadworks on the stretch between Bonnievale and Montagu.  The roads within the town of Montagu are also tarred.  The roads within the resort are made from compacted apricot pips.

There are approximately 85 sites located on three terraces at the resort.  The lowest terrace is closest to the dam, while the upper terrace is closest to the various activities offered at the resort.

All the stands are large enough to park a really big caravan.  Most of the stands are grassed and there is ample shade.  However, a compromise needs to be made between shade and grass.  The shadier the site, the less grass there is.  Most of the stands are relatively flat.

Each site has its own electrical box with a standard 220v connection.

Lights are located along the roads within the resort, helping you to find your way to the ablution facilities in the dark.  These are of the upright type with an opaque ball on top.  The light is bright enough to help you find your way, but not too bright to be bothersome while you sleep.

There are also lights at the ablution facilities, both inside and just outside the entrance doors.  These are also not too bright.

There are six ablution blocks located within the resort.  Two of the ablutions are cater specifically for ladies and gents with separate bathrooms, while the rest are unisex.  All the ablutions are modern and spacious.  The showers are located in their own rooms, and there is a dry area in front of the shower for storing your towel and clothes. A shower curtain separates the wet from the dry area.  There are also hooks and a raised packing area to keep you things off the floor.  Each shower has its own gas geyser, so there is never an issue of having to content with a cold shower.  The bathrooms are cleaned on a regular basis and are always kept in a good, clean condition.

Taps with drinkable water are located throughout the resort, and you never have to walk far to find one.

Each site has been provided with a bin which is empties regularly,  There are also bins located at each of the ablution blocks.  There is also a bin at the washing up area for any left over food, which the resort donates to the local SPCA.

Washing up

A washing area is located on the outside of every ablution facility.

Each site has its own stone braai.  The braai is square and there is ample space for a large fire to cook a large meal.  There is a space under the braai to store your wood and braai utensils.   There are no braai grids supplied, so make sure to bring your own.  Wood can be purchased at reception.

Book early

This is a very popular resort throughout the year and it is advisable to make a booking in advance.  Even out of season, this resort is chock-on-block full.  The sites are large enough not to be bothered by your camping neighbours.

The facilities at this resort really do cater to every member of the family.  If you prefer to lounge around the camp site whilst letting the men fish to their heart's content, make sure to book one of the stands on the lower level close to the dam.  Hubby might be lucky enough to hook a carp, a Mozambique tilapia or a catfish.

If you are camping with little people, then the site on the first and second terraces are best.  Here the kids can clamber on the large jungle gym, bounce on the trampoline and pet the tame ponies.  The cold water pool with a tame supertube is located on the second terrace.  The larger of the two heated indoor pools is located between the first and second terrace.  The smaller indoor heated pool is located at the top of the first terrace.  This pool is for adults only and gives folks an escape from the little people.  There are loungers located around all the pools.

There is also a cafe at the resort that stocks those all-important ice lollies, ice creams and cool drinks.  They also offer takeaway meals during the day.

Animals and pets

There are large flocks of ducks and geese that frequent the resort.  Do no be surprised if they decide to amble through your camp in search of bread and crumbs.

The resort does allow you to bring your furry friends along,  Just make sure you inform the resort manager when you book.  You will be given a list of do's and don't for your dogs, to ensure that everybody has a good camping experience.

Looking at the facilities and all the activities for both young and old, you can clearly understand why it is such a popular resort.
